REVIEW: Spellfury – Episode I
Written by Ithiel on Monday, March 16th.

Late last week, I was approached by Travis, the Writer/Director of a new Warcraft Live-Action show called SpellFury to ask if we could review some of his work here on WoWFailBlog.com. He asked me to be as honest as possible, which is something he may later regret, but hopefully not too much icon smile REVIEW: Spellfury Episode I non wow

SpellFury seems to be more fantasy-genre than Warcraft, but that’s probably a good thing as it gives them more room to play, so to speak. The story, from what I can surmise, is about a night/wood/dark/blood/blond-elf (is blond elf an official elf type?), and a somewhat-overdramatic warrior-type human carying a Sword of a Thousand Truths/Lightsaber thingy wrapped up in a towel.

The episode starts with a rather well rendered title scene, and moves to a castle backdrop/landscape shot which is actually pretty well done. The CGI, as a whole, is actually quite impressive for a small production like this – I’ve seen full length shows make it to TV with far less. It’s no Square Enix, but it doesn’t have to be. From here we go to a Forrest scene to meet our two main characters – it doesn’t really god into much detail about who they are, where they are from, or why they’re carrying a GM Weapon – but being that the episodes are less than 2min long, it doesn’t give a great deal of time to go into such frivolous details.

The lines are good, and the acting is mostly ok (although the a dramatic chipmunk reference was there for a reason) – again, it’s better than a lot of what I see on TV, so there’s really nothing to complain about on that front.

All in all, it is a very good start to a series that has great potential – if I were to make any suggestions, it would be that the length is a little lacking. I know the heavy use of CGI would make things rather hard to keep on schedule, but 90 seconds just isn’t enough (especially when 15sec+ is spent on intro and ‘previously on’).

Overall Rating: 7/10 – Very Good

So.. without further adieu: SpellFury – Episode I.

NB: Spell Fury is so far three episodes long (with a new episode coming every month) and I will be reviewing one a week for the next three weeks, and then monthly as each new episode as it is released. If you liked this episode, be sure to check out the SpellFury.com website, or check back here next week when we review Episode II.

Liked the lol? Buy me a drink :-)
