Site Design: I’ve been messing about again
Written by Ithiel on Friday, March 27th.
Hi Everyone,
It’s 3am here, so I’m gonna try and make this quick or I risk passing out on my keyboard (again…) I’ve made a few changes to WoW Fail Blog over the last few days, and again tonight, and I need your feedback on what you think! Here’s a list of the changes:
- Recent Post list replaced by cool widget thingy – this rotates around showing the last 15 images (complete with summary when you mouse over).
- Recent Comments list changed a little. It’s a lot more tidy than it was a few weeks ago.
- Normal WordPress comments replaced with JS-Kitcomments. This allows you to log in with your FaceBook, Yahoo, or OpenID account, as well as Name/Email. It’s not displaying the CommentLuv correctly just yet (it’s not even giving me the option for URL for guest), so I’ll try and fix that tomorrow. The biggest benefit of this is it allows you to insert Images and even (apparently) Video into your comments! Not sure how this will pan out, but we’ll give it a go. It also allows voting up and down comments, as well as marking them as offencive (if some nasty spam sneaks through or something).
- Feedback button thing added to the left hand side of the page! Click it and it lets you ad your vote to a few existing suggestions, or you can click ‘Go To Feedback Forum’ (no reg req.) and you can leave a new idea which others can vote on. This lets us know what you like, what you don’t like, and what you want added/changed/to include free fries (since Obama ain’t buying). We also need to know if you’re interested in some new ideas we had!
Side Note: This js-kit thing also includes an option to enable captcha for non authenticated users. With the rate the spam is increasing each day, I may not have a choice but to turn this on. If this is likely to cause some massive problem for you (allergic reaction to squiggly text?) then let me know and I’ll try and come up with a better idea.
Well, I think that’s about it. I upgraded to IE8 today and realised I exchanged a few old bugs for a crap-load of new ones like the WP Page editor going skrewie (Ty M$ for at least giving us compatibility mode!), but at least this restores my session after each time it crashes. It also gives me one more browser I need to code for since no two browsers ever display things the same /sigh. Oh, and to those having a heart attack at the words ‘IE’, keep your shirt on. I use IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera, and have sessions stored in each. my FF session is 200 tabs+ so I don’t open it unless I need to (lol. want screenshots?) – Chrome, IE, and Opera generally sit around 20-30 tab sessions.
Righto, if you notice anything is broke – let me know, don’t just asume someone else will. lol.
Night all
