Since anyone can remember, gambling has been part of our history back when the days where winning meant saving your own life and losing meant execution. It’s in our blood, our genes if you must ask. It’s that tempted feeling when you get when standing beside a slot machine, somehow that handle bar becomes so interesting. Or if you just want to knock the table signalling a hit to the dealer. Gambling has come and gone in various forms, whether it be in the real world or in-game gambling.
Gamers in WoW have taken gambling to a new level by using the chat system in World of Warcraft. They have set up what you would call a ‘virtual casino’, tempting gamers to place bets and roll dice for in-game gold. Some people may hate it because of all the spamming that occurs in their chat screens, but for some, this is where they become real men (or so they think).
As of February 17, the topic of in-game gambling/casino has been a very controversial topic and the outcome is that ‘in-game gambling is no longer allowed’.
The offenders were using the game’s “Yell” chat mode to advertise their gambling “services,” meaning players could not easily ignore the messages. A random number-generating slash command was used to roll virtual dice.
